Good morning - I have returned to this "note" on the "Denial of St. Peter" several times this summer. Thank you for your insightful and curious comments. My spouse, Virginia Derryberry, UNCA Department of Art Chairperson, and I spent several days looking at Caravaggio paintings in Rome (including the 400th anniversary show). Following these days of looking, thinking, reading, and prayer, I decided to share several of the Caravaggio religious paintings as visual focuses during worship at Parkway United Church of Christ where I am interim pastor. What makes Caravaggio painting a way of seeing God? To quote "Shakespeare in Love" "It's a mystery!"
Thank you.
