I have what appears to be a Jomon/Yayoi period pot about 7 or 8 inches high. Having gone through all the time periods in Japan's history with pictures of pottery there were none that looked like the one I have. The clay is sandy/pinkish with a white glaze with black pin-sized dots (from iron oxide?) The front has an elaborate relief work that has some slip work (trees). In the back ground it appears there are 2 tiny (quarter to three eighth inch) men in prayer with a building behind them. The lip and the base has a rope, lip-finish. There is a (perhaps 2) trademarks of mostly lines, very tiny with parenthesies above and below. It has a typical vase shape. The swelling is quite large and it is in almost perfect condition. Can anyone date this piece? Or give me a locale? Thank you, Anne

I love Japanese art, especially the old pottery! I think Japanese anime is also an art that is often underrated. My absolute favorite is Yoshitaka Amano. I just bought his new graphic novel, Mateki the magic flute- it proves he is a living legend!!!
